Loving Son, Brother and Uncle

Obituary

Jeff Scott Frayer, age 59, passed away unexpectedly January 8, 2021. He was the son of Paula Frayer (A. Duane, deceased), brother of Sade Linn Frayer, and uncle to Taryn Smagola and Bee Ries.

Jeff, known as Uncle Silly to the family, was the genius loci of the world-famous Comedy Store in Los Angeles. He worked there as the head pianist for the past 25 years, the first non-comedian to get his name on their famous signature wall. He was an HIV survivor, an unofficial Comedy Store historian & collector extraordinaire (as well as the family historian), and an incredible makeup artist who always put his all into his costumes for the annual West Hollywood Halloween parade. He had great stories, kept his family laughing, and had the absolute best laugh in the world. All the comedians at the Store knew if they could make him laugh with a new joke; they had something good.

He was a professional Pee Wee Herman impersonator for several years, working for Sea World first in Cleveland, then San Diego; this led to him being a body double on the promotional poster for Big Top Pee Wee. He moved to California in the late 80s after receiving his HIV diagnosis, assuming it would soon take his life as it had taken the lives of so many of his friends; but he fought hard & stayed healthy all of these years. He was so deeply loved by his friends, family, & Comedy Store family. There are no words for how much he will be missed.
